VDM
VDM is a highly survivable specialist counter mining / counter IED vehicle. In its primary role as a lead route clearance vehicle maximum blast protection provides a safe platform from which the operator can conduct the key tasks of detection and neutralisation. The VDM is a highly configurable system with growth potential; its digital architecture has been designed to accommodate a comprehensive suite of sensors, decoys and neutralisation systems which are capable of defeating the ever evolving threat. Enhanced off-road mobility ensures that the VDM can go anywhere and clear any path, providing the maximum freedom of manoeuvre.
The first VDM vehicles were delivered to 13 Engineer Regiment, French Army on March 21st 2011 for deployment in Afghanistan.
As part of the MMSR-SYDERA programme MBDA developed and demonstrated an unmanned version of the VDM, which can be remotely operated from the safety of a command vehicle. Many of the lessons learnt from this programme are now being used to develop the next generation of route clearance systems.
